Context and History Art & Design

In this lecture we are going to be thinking about the social of the material round up. We will also be thinking about the craft and the idea of design being a board way of practice. The core focus for this lesson is the 

In the last session we was looking into the hostility of the idea. Henry Adams was nervous about the idea being a concept. In the same year that Henry Adams is writing about the concept there was others that were positive towards the idea. Gertrude Stein is really interested in writing about peoples experience but not narrating frame work that you may see on the novel. The that came out very important during her writing were focused upon experience, highly subjective experience but to some extent it is depersonalised. Stein doesn't like the idea of seen an ordering of frame work and is interested in the fleeting qualities of experience. Subjectivity of time, people got interested in how you can personally experience time. Pragmatism is about connecting with the world, reading the problems you may encounter everyday. You are in noisy situation and there are things you can do to avoid it. 

Pragmatism 

Meaning a "is a philosophical movement that includes those who claim that an ideology or proposition is true if it works satisfactorily, that the meaning of a proposition is to be found in the practical consequences of accepting it, and that unpractical ideas are to be rejected."(Dictionary, google)

Stream of Consciousness (William James, Publishes his 'Pragmatism' in 1907). William James starts with the idea of that your in a noisy situation and there is something you will do just for now to get through it. He said "consciousness does not appear to itself as chopped up bits", there is a kind of assertive to speak about experiences in that way, there is not specific time for each one. In short we do not think in fragments of time, we have a conscious train of thought because our complete web of emotion is intertwined with memory. This is a concept of web of images entwined with memory because it asserts themselves with memories. He was interested in the fragmentation of noise and also the connection. "Each design perfectly expresses not only the state of one of the neighbourhood during specific interval in time, but also the snow crystals own particular historical trajectory within it. Because the snow crystal is literally the product of time".It is the idea of this crystal being the outcome of the whole kinda of outcome of area of the universe, producing this form. It maps really nicely in this modernism position of experience.
